On June 26, 2023, Singapore issued the TBT notification G/TBT/N/SGP/70 through the World Trade Organization (WTO), proposing to amend the Energy Conservation (Controlled Goods and Registered Suppliers) Regulations and the Energy Conservation (Prescribed Controlled Goods) Order under the Energy Conservation Act (ECA).
The Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) and the Mandatory Energy Labeling Scheme (MELS) implemented by Singapore starting from 2008 and 2011 are policy measures aimed at improving the average energy efficiency of controlled goods used in Singaporean households. To further achieve this goal, Singapore has proposed the following amendment measures:
From April 1, 2024, extend MEPS and MELS to portable air - conditioners.
From April 1, 2024, revise the MEPS and MELS for controlled lights and extend these requirements to more light types.
From April 1, 2025, extend MEPS and standby power consumption requirements to televisions.
Modify the MEPS for split - type air - conditioners from April 1, 2025.
Modify the MEPS for refrigerators from April 1, 2025.
From January 1, 2024, revise the test standards applicable to new registrations and renewal of registrations according to the latest version of international standards.
The above amendments aim to improve the average energy efficiency of controlled goods used in Singaporean households, thus promoting Singapores development towards a more environmentally friendly and energy - efficient direction.
